STOCKHOLM PUBLIC LIBRARY
SUMMER 2010
MEDIUM:
AutoCAD, Rhino
The Open City Studio in Stockholm, Sweden focused on the expanded documentation of the Stockholm Public Library. Since Gunnar Asplund’s original design in 1928, additions have been made to the building and site which are not present in current documentation. Myself and a partner updated the plans, sections, and elevations of this monumental building through hand measurements. The culmination of our study was to create a final composition which shows the essence of the structure. Included in the drawing are hieroglyphics found on the exterior frieze of the building which represent the various book subjects that are held within the library’s collection. The central perspective is based on one’s experience upon ascending the entry stairs into the rotunda where the stacks are stored.
