Harmonizing Space and Mind is about understanding the effect our built environment has on us both physically and emotionally. Being able to understand how to manipulate the spaces we create to generate certain feelings is important, especially when dealing with medical treatment facilities. Over the years medical facilities were often developed to follow the advancements in technology rather than focus on the experience and comfort of the patient. Through a personal experience with my mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, I came to understand the need of the patient to have a comforting and calming environment. In a time when their world is so out of control and unbalanced, the patient is striving for a place to feel at peace. By identifying essential elements, which impact how patients react and feel in a space, we can create an optimal healing environment.
