The existing condition of the site was a lawn/tree area between 2
buildings. One is a cancer treatment center, the other a medical office
building. The process involved work with a focus group comprised of
current and previous cancer patients. The final design included outdoor
seating, a winding color pigmented and stained walkway, a dry creek, a
themed garden of healing plants, shade structures and a water feature.
A retaining wall was placed at an existing slope to capture additional
site area for gardens. Work included close coordination with hospital
staff including the focus group facilitator and design personnel as well
as a water feature consultant, structural engineer and architect.
