Top: In response to a planner's report that showed slowed traffic and increased community togetherness for painted intersections, my painting and public art class was asked to come up with individual propositions for what the painted street could look like. In my proposal, neighbors would paint lines from their favorite poems to form a composition that celebrated the power of text as language and shape.

 

Bottom: The paintings are a study in overlapping transparencies on stretched muslin. Stopping at the early stage of gessoing in the painting process, the paintings became relevant to my design thinking and inspired composition of spatial volumes in my studio work.
