Nature has its own ways of adapting to the constantly changing environment. As rigid systems become increasingly limited in their capabilities to perform complex tasks and adapt to their environment like living creatures do, the need for soft systems has become more prominent due to the similar complex, compliant, and flexible characteristics they share with intelligent natural systems.
As designers, how might we learn from the geometry and logic of, particularly, animals like coral, starfish and mud nest that allow for achieving structural integrity and spatial qualities. The aim of this project is to explore ways natural materials, specifically biomaterials and animal-like forms, can be integrated to provide environmental comfort in arid areas.
