Oscillation between the fake and natural, the site investigates the fabrication of artificial landscapes within the context of the LA River. The LA River, an area that was once considered nature, is now a hardscape of concrete that spans 51 miles. The site is transformed into an incubator for regional habitat improvements, and experimentation between fake and real ecological conditions. Through the concept of a petri dish, site is divided into programmatic elements dealing with: water redirection, novel species microcosms, and education. Each of these programs creates a robust functionalism that allows the various micro-habitats to thrive both autonomously and collectively.
