Papilia is about the urban redevelopment of an area in the center of Pavia, Italy, where, during the roman period, there was the Domus of the ostrogoth king Teodorico.
This rectangular area has two court defined by the buildings that overlook the street, which are houses and offices, a deconsecrated church, which now is a gym for “Società ginnastica pavese” (a gymnastics arts group), an abandoned pavilion and an old firemen station, that now it’s in disuse. The most iconic building of this area is the San Dalmazio tower, one of the main towers of the city. The project is about realization of a new gym for gymnsatics art and the restoration of the building, with the function of houses for the university student. The name Papilia comes from the latin family who lived in Pavia, and for this reason it wants to honor the history of the place.
