Colony for a Cure

The Susan G. Komen Colony for the Cure will be a wellness center and spa for those fighting and at risk for breast cancer.  The first of its kind, the building will bring together a spa, education center, café, salon, gym and doctors’ offices.  The colony will focus on the education, screening and treatment of women battling breast cancer. The colony’s staff will have the proper education to give the upmost care to anyone who visits.  This includes properly trained masseuses and an all women staff.

The colony will also focus on complementary therapies to educate and put into practice.  Mind-body medicines using techniques to help the mind affect body functions and improve symptoms of disease and/or treatment can be experienced in the gym or grand staircase.  Biologically-based practices that use natural products like vitamins and herbs to treat a variety of conditions can be tasted and tried at the café.  Manipulative and body-based practices use movement and manipulation of the body to promote health and ease pain and other problems can be experienced at the spa and gym.  Energy medicines use external electromagnetic fields or the body’s assumed energy field to promote health to try to lessen symptoms of disease and/or treatment can also be enjoyed at our spa.

The following are a sampling of the complementary therapies that the colony will offer: acupuncture,  acupressure,  ginger,  green tea,  guided imagery,  massage,  meditation,  music therapy,  physical therapy,  soy,  Vitamins (A, B6,B12,C,D,E, and K) and  yoga.
