Site: The site was located in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo at the cross streets of Monterey and Osos
Project Description: I was required to design a hotel for a specific amount of occupants, as well as various support facilities and buildings.
Project Details: With the problem of urban design, I set out to create a world class hotel geared toward the wealthy business traveler. Integration of various functions in such a socially diverse downtown area provide an opportunity for travelers and local patrons to interact. The slope of the site provided me with opportunities to seperate major functions into staggered levels on the ground floor allowing an interplay of height change to occur in the interior. The circulation system if both aesthetical and functional, which became a major yet simple part of my design. The establishment of a private courtyard created a sense of intimacy within a busy booming downtown area.
