The challenges of this site included its triangular shape and adjacency to a freeway off-ramp (with associated visibility setbacks).   Incredibly, despite these challenges SDA was able to achieve a density of 100 DU / AC.  The design relies on big gestures in response to the auto-centric location.  Bold colors and curving wall planes (“fins”) are simple, low-cost architectural devices to achieve this.  The one luxury was the zinc metal siding used on the street elevation.  The blue / gray color varies in the sunlight and provides interest at the building entrance.  A roof deck elevates tenants above the street traffic and provides city views.
