Theorists state that the essence of architecture is space. Still, space can’t be called space without a person to experience it. For me architecture is about senses, feelings, thoughts, actions and relation building. As Patrick Renvoise, neuromarketing expert said, “We are not thinking machines that feel, we are feeling machines that think.” (Renvoise, 2007, p.38) If that’s the case, then why should we be concerned in creating phlegmatic eccentric spaces? We should be more concerned in exploring experiences and emotions in the human mind. Every project that I make tries to identify with its user by activating its emotional being. I try not to sell a product for its qualities, but for its experience potentials. It is a well-known fact that emotions shape consumer’s behavior, and emotions are at the center of experience.
As a business and architecture student and marketing enthusiast I am concerned in brand positioning, and this is perhaps the reason why I tend to focus my designs on sensory marketing and neuromarketing techniques. These techniques structure spaces where experiences can be shaped, emotions expressed, and memories created. It is through the five human senses and the brain’s function how I explore space. I know for one fact that marketing can be a great tool to discover user’s ideals, needs, and wishes to cultivate in an architectural project.
