Seeing that most schools in Newark represent more of a jail rather than a school, I tackled the idea of creating an exterior space that would have no need for a fence to enclose it. Stepped courtyards are located within the school, separating areas of interaction for students. Doing so allows the students to have an open view to the street with the safety that a fence would provide.
