York Regional #1 District Headquarters, designed by Parkin Architects, is a state-of-the-art facility created with users in mind. This collaboration between the client and consultant groups has resulted in a building that not only meets but exceeds initial regional goals, aiming for the York Region 2031 carbon neutral mandate and surpassing the standards for LEED Silver certification.

A key feature of the building is its focus on the needs of its occupants. The spacious lobby and atrium foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, while the community room provides a versatile space for gatherings and collaboration. The staff offices and meeting rooms are designed to optimize productivity and teamwork, complemented by amenities such as locker rooms, a fitness room, and lounge/dining areas that promote employee wellness and work-life balance.

To ensure the building's functionality, efficiency, and sustainability, Parkin Architects established rigorous standards of excellence in project delivery. This included conducting quality tests for building performance, such as blower door tests at key construction phases to ensure the integrity of the building's envelope.

York Regional Police moved into the facility the first week of January 2022. The 45,000 square foot multi-level building is located on 2.86 acres at 429 Harry Walker Parkway South, in the Town of Newmarket. The project was completed on time and within budget, adhering to Passive House Principles.

The facility operates 24/7 and includes a variety of specialized spaces such as public address areas, administrative offices, interview and booking areas, evidence lockers, holding cells, as well as gun unloading room, staff training facilities, detention cells, interview rooms, and a room for community use.

York Regional #1 District Headquarters was featured in SABMag, highlighting its LEED Silver certification and the use of geothermal systems for HVAC purposes.
