Peter Pitseolak High School

The Peter Pitseolak High School project was driven by a user-centred approach that ensured the facility met or exceeded the functional requirements of the school programs. The team provided full architectural services, including schematic design, design development, detailed design, and contract administration. The building site was chosen to take advantage of the local topography and natural light, and the design was delivered using an iterative delivery model that focused on coordination and phasing to complete design and construction activities concurrently.

But what truly sets the Peter Pitseolak High School apart is its incorporation of Inuit culture. The design reflects Northern values and elements that promote Inuit identity. The building features several cultural spaces and classrooms that encourage traditional forms of education and gatherings. It sits high in the local landscape, capturing breathtaking views of the community below and the hamlet’s major body of water, the Ice Lake. By designing with the needs and cultural identity of its users in mind, the Peter Pitseolak High School serves as a modern, functional, and culturally significant educational facility.
