The People's Place for Free Assembly

The American Hall for Free Expression and Assembly is a dynamic structure for American citizens - and global visitors - to gather, celebrate and exercise the civil liberties guaranteed them by the founding documents, which are housed in the adjacent National Archives.

The building is anchored by a large, central gathering space with multiple access points and is visible from the surrounding undulating levels to be freely explored by the user.  The space is a type of plaza, open and vast, but with the stability and permanence of an enclosed structure. The large Beaux Arts stair offers easy passage up to the roof and provides large platforms for gathering.
