Dallas County, the City of Dallas Parks, the Park Foundation, and TxDOT wanted to see the final sections of a citywide hike and bike trail system located adjacent to the ‘High-Five’ interchange of LBJ Freeway and US 75 designed and built. In the summer of 2005, J.R. Phillips started the design. The private sector raised $3.2 million by September 2005 lead by Mary Poss & Associates.
Texas Instruments and other surrounding corporate contributors were supporters of the J.R. Phillips design. The design incorporated a 12-foot wide concrete trail running along the bank of Cottonwood Creek. Early in the discussions a desire to create an esplanade or multi-use plaza adjacent to the new trail we requested.
The landscape architects designed two circular shaped open spaces that are pierced by the 12-foot wide trail. The trail crossed the creek with a pedestrian bridge between the two circular plazas. An attempt was made to tie the theme of the aesthetics at the ‘High-Five’ with the theme of the plazas. Project construction completed spring 2010. Formal dedication occurred in June 2010
