A new exhibition inspired by the rise of the creator economy amongst builders and tradespeople has taken over the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal this summer.
Curated by Hester Keijser, madskills: Self-Documenting Construction on Social Media investigates popular worker-made social media posts documenting unique construction skills on-site and in a viral manner. It is part of an ongoing investigation by the institution into the use of new media as a lens through which the built environment can be examined.
The CCA says it might also warrant "questions of agency, authorship, and ethics." Select pieces from its collection will be juxtaposed with digital content.
madskills also includes content shared on the popular Instagram account @everyverything by former Archinect team member (and current UCLA PhD student) Shane Reiner-Roth.
The show is open to the public now and will remain on view until October 20th this year.
