This year's winners of the annual Brick in Architecture Awards were announced by the Brick Industry Association today.
The award celebrates artistic and technological advancement of the material and the skilled use of brick masonry in architectural designs. Winners were drawn from the United States, Mexico, Canada, China, and, for the first time in the program's history, Russia. A group of 44 projects were awarded in Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories, with nine ‘Best in Class’ winners joined by the overall winner of the Craftsmanship Award.

These projects are phenomenal. Brick has the capacity to evoke, as it expresses a time where construction was broken down to smaller components, which required more craft and care. Now our cities are made with lazy, unexpressive gestures in concrete and stucco which have no regard for scale. I recommend looking at the work of a master of brick, Rogelio Salmona.
