Commercial interior design association IIDA has announced the winners of its 2022 Student Design Competition. Sponsored by furniture manufacturer OFS and subsidiary company Carolina, the program celebrates the talent of interior design students, showcasing emerging professionals in the industry.
This year’s challenge tasked entrants to space plan a behavioral health clinic that focuses on outpatient services for substance abuse patients and those with mood and anxiety disorders. The brief called for a floor plan that includes a waiting room, exam rooms, therapy rooms, and administrative spaces. As stated in IIDA’s challenge description: “Thoughtful interior design and architecture should create a healing environment while facilitating communication and collaboration while promoting patient dignity and safety.”
Entries were judged by a panel of design professionals including Uphealing Founder and Design Principal, Lilliana Alvarado, IIDA; FCA Associate and Project Interior Designer, Alexandra Bonner, IIDA; HKS Senior Interior Designer, Ashleigh Cotter, IIDA; HDR Interior Design Principal, Kristina Johnson, IIDA; CannonDesign Associate and Interior Designer, Dani Sheley, IIDA; NBBJ Associate Interior Designer, Dehne Sibbernsen, IIDA; and OFS National Accounts Director–Healthcare, Natalie Thomas.
The first, second, and third place winners received awards of $2,500, $1,500, and $750, respectively.
“Each of this year’s entrants exhibited a high level of ingenuity and passion,” said juror Lilliana Alvarado. “While we received a strong number of submissions, the selected winners creatively showcased the necessary elements of a high-functioning behavioral health clinic.”
