This week's picks include a lecture by Monica Ponce de Leon and SCI-Arc's 2018 Open Season career fair. If you haven't seen it yet, it's the last week of “Found in Translation: Design in California and Mexico” at LACMA. Read on for our latest weekly event recommendations.
Monica Ponce de Leon Lecture | March 28
Mónica Ponce de León, the Dean of the Princeton School of Architecture and founder of MPdL Studio, will deliver a lecture at SCI-Arc. MPdL Studio’s work ranges in scale from furniture to architecture, urban design and infrastructure, with a focus on design integration, craft, detailing, and precision.
Departing from a traditional career fair model, Open Season is a student exhibition in which SCI-Arc undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate participants pin up their work along the walls of SCI-Arc’s expansive South Gallery. The school invites employers, including studio principals, hiring managers, and alumni, to the exhibition’s opening reception.
Found in Translation: Design in California and Mexico | Closing on April 1
Only a week left for Found in Translation: Design in California and Mexico! Featuring works by prominent figures like Richard Neutra, Luis Barragán, Charles and Ray Eames, and Clara Porset, this exhibition is the first to examine how interconnections between California and Mexico shaped the material culture of each place.
