Battersea Power Station Tours with Wilkinson Eyre Architects | Register before 21 June
Enter the draw before Wednesday to win a chance to visit Wilkinson Eyre's most anticipated and talked about project, Battersea Power Station with none other than Jim Eyre. Those lucky entrants pulled from the draw will visit the live site on Sunday, and gain a full understanding of not only the difficulties associated with the refurbishment of a Grade II* icon, but of the aspirational ideas behind the project.
Serpentine Pavilion | Opening 23 June
This year's Serpentine Pavilion opens this week on the lawns of Hyde Park. Last year's offering from BIG will be hard to beat, so be sure to visit to decide for yourself. Diébédo Francis Kéré, who leads the Berlin-based 'Kéré Architecture', responds to his brief with a pavilion which celebrates light and the british weather; a canopy allows a circulating breeze in the kind of heat we've experienced lately, and its funnel shape creates a spectacle of the inevitable British summertime rains.
Architecture Degree Shows | Until July/ August
Open 2017 : Architecture Degree Show
Having had a packed opening night last week, the graduate show of the University of Westminster School of Architecture is in particular a show not to be missed. Units are incredibly varied, meaning that as you walk through the works, it is almost as if there are entirely different schools under one roof.
Opening also this week are the Bartlett, the CASS, and RCA summer shows, which promise to be bigger and better than ever, especially with the Bartlett making the most of their new building.
The RA LEGO Challenge | 25 June
As part of their summer show (above), the RA will be holding a LEGO challenge alongside four architectural practices. They have invited the firms to recreate 'lost' or unrealised buildings using 15,000 of the beloved plastic bricks. Entry is free with Summer Show entry, and the plastic creations promise to be jaw-dropping.
Multiple Modernities | 27 June
As part of the ongoing 'Circling the Square' exhibition, this talk will explore the Modernist designs of architects like Mies van der Rohe through a non-western lens. Looking at places which rarely feature in the history books of Modernism, speakers will use places from Brazil to Zambia as examples in this discussion of design.
