The Rendering Eye: Urban America Revisited presents 3D screenshots of the urban US as they appear in Apple Maps: deserted streets, post-apocalyptic buildings and industrial plants, melting harbors. Cars and boats turn into shadows, trees into sculptures, containers into wax.[...]
The cityscapes captured by artist REGULA BOCHSLER for the publication are abstract, machine generated, and cold. And yet they are poetic, not least because of their “mistakes,” which give them a painterly composition.

Fascinating. I suppose that any artist or designer hopes to find sources of imagery which are rich and rewarding without requiring any decisions as to form and content -- other than (as in this case, apparently) a simple choice of orientation and framing. For a photographic process to provide images like these is a happy accident indeed.
I'll be looking for a source of Regula Bochsler's book !
"In many ways these places are terrible, but visually they are incredibly thrilling."
the culture of vapid fetishization, aesthetic sociopathy and pathological frivolousness .
when the world has so many problems, so many issues to offer for serious consideration, especially now, yet here we see the confluence of a neoliberal factory of servants wearing the allure, the disguise, of a critical medium (which it is not, Apple) with the morbid and trivial fetishization in the guise of a critical re-imagination (which it is not, Artist). a confluence of fake leftism (abusing the "concern" with the reification of capitalism to reproduce an inept, fetishistic - in fact championing as opposed to critical- commentary for consumption) with a faking rightism (Apple selling itself as progressive, avant garde through imagery whereas its reality, as a procurer of neo-slaves as cheap resource, is anything but).
This ofcourse needs to be closed in a triangle, you, us, the gullible, forgetful and stupid audience. You, us, the stupid spectators-consumers who sigh and complain about the dire state of the world in the shape of these giant corporations with zero ethics, slave factories....You, us, the stupid spectators-consumers who WOW and OMG and rush to get the latest Ipads and the Apps and Regina Boschler books.
^that's EXACTLY what i as going to type on my iMac.
