Talk about hopping on a band wagon. Does he not realize is that this wagon is broken?
I threw up a little in my mouth. Does someone have a hanky?
Now YOU can own your very own Jewish Museum!!
Straight from the Berlin metropolis, each unit comes with custom interior finishes, IKEA light fixtures, and the possibility for the endlessly banal.
Why stand in long airport security lines and stumble over 'German for Dummies'? Get a piece of history delivered right to your door without ever stepping foot out of anywhereville, USA!!!!!!

Oh, another prank from Libes...yaaaaaaawn...kind.
ether ....funny!
every single time danny screws around with his legacy, the value of my signed Unfolding folio takes a hit. a hit, that's a good idea, time to call my friend J.Gotti.
Branding a bespoke villa design with a prefab tag is were this proposal goes wrong before he even designed it - this is like failing a first year project: consistent story = right design . Anyone with $3 million to spend on a top architect designed villa, would expect a one off gem, not a flat pack. insulting...
key points:
“This is really the first time I’ve taken on the issue of doing something which is a limited artistic edition of a new space...
While many architects have dabbled in prefab concepts, most focused on mass production techniques and inexpensive designs. Mr. Libeskind’s villa will carry a price tag of ...$2.8 million to $4.2 million... depending on the destination.
Buyers will also be promised regional exclusivity, ensuring that they are the only ones in their neighborhoods with the design.
The house is designed as three interlocking structures and most of the elements will be manufactured in a factory. But Michael Merz, general manager of Proportion, the Berlin-based company that is marketing and distributing the villa, says that the custom features and the fact that it will take several months to assemble the building on its site means that it actually should not be categorized as a prefab structure.
“We never really wanted it to be a prefab,” Mr. Merz said. “We want to position this as a piece of art.”
i'm not for it or against it, but they're attempting something sort of different from what most of the 'prefab' efforts have been about. it's like a limited edition print in 3d! probably just built in a factory so that they can tightly control the quality and not have to work with local builders whose skills may/not be known.
Steven,
1. There is absolutely nothing new about what he's proposing. Marmol-Radziner, among others, did projects that were custom, factory built and ran into the millions of dollars. All of those efforts have recently failed in this economy.
2. The idea of this being a piece of art is an insult to art. It looks like a bad temporary pavilion for best-buy and further cheapens his already declining legacy.
3. I'm really surprised that the NYT would become a mouthpiece for what is basically an exceedingly arrogant press statement/advertisement. Other architects have "dabbled" in prefab? Please, give me a break. The prefab movement is littered with the careers of architects and designers far more capable and invested in the concept since the beginning of the industrial revolution.
4. Kudos to Libeskind's publicist, you have done an amazing job squeezing press out a total piece of garbage. I hope he pays you well because you deserve it.
those lights... is that the star of david?
I think the way Mr. Libeskind is talking about the project may simply hint at a certain lack of perspective - or circumspection, which can result when an architect begins - rather than closes - a career with large, high-profile projects. When that happens, its possible to unintentionally come across as egotistical and vain, even if he really is well-meaning...
would everyone who is posting negative comments, please upload your own design for a prefab home? i'm just curious to see what YOU would design and what comments others might have about YOUR work.
Have you seen the Libeskind-designed PIANO?
Try not to barf while laughing.
