1. 'REM' - Rem Koolhaas Documentary by Tomas Koolhaas
Directed by Rem's son, Tomas Koolhaas, this feature-length documentary has two shoots left before starting post-production. Tomas' architecture documentary branches out from the traditional approach of the film genre, featuring a behind-the-scenes look into the details of his father's work process as well as stories from everyday people that use his built projects.
2. The Pop-Up City Book by The Pop-Up City
Jeroen Beekmans and Joop de Boer of the Amsterdam-based blog The Pop-Up City is finally at the brink of publishing their first book. Readers will get to flip through 260 pages of stories and colorful illustrations about the making of cities, design and culture.
3. The DIY Concrete House Ring by Linda Bennett
The complex process of making used in the architecture and construction industries is now within reach and made easier. This DIY kit lets you create customizable silver and concrete composite rings. (Would make for a nifty gift idea.)
4. Deborah Sussman Loves Los Angeles! by WUHO
Last month, we highlighted WUHO Gallery's Kickstarter to install the first retrospective of iconic graphic designer Deborah Sussman. It was a success! Mark your calendars for the opening reception on Dec. 12.
5. Spacemaker VR: Walk Inside Your 3d Designs by Digital Physical
Here's another Kickstarter we recently featured. Digital Physical's "Spacemaker" virtual reality software lets designers export their 3D files and test out their creations, even during the design process.
6. Possible Mediums by K. Bair, K. Balliet, A. Fure, K. Miller
Founded by a group of emerging designers working in academia, the Possible Mediums project extends architectural production methods to mediums outside of the discipline. After their successful initial launch, the group heads for the next phase with a traveling exhibition to showcase these design investigations.
7. HOME₂O Roof System: Building a Prototype Shelter by HOME₂O
A group of NYIT students and professors began developing a roof system that upcycles empty water bottles and shipping pallets to provide natural disaster victims around the world with durable, sustainable shelter. They will assemble a full-scale prototype home for further research and development.
8. pixelstick - Light painting evolved by Bitbanger Labs
pixelstick goes beyond the physical limitations of the light-painting medium, where users can include photoreal images, abstract designs, and animation to their pieces.
