Toward the end of 1953, Willy Rizzo took a series of portraits of the architect Le Corbusier, three of which were published in the magazine Paris Match. Much of Rizzo’s work was done in medium-format color. These photographs have not been published since. — LJP
We are most familiar with iconic b&w photographs of Le Corbusier. Le Journal de la Photographie re-publishes beautiful color photographs by the artist Willy Rizzo shot in 1953 and three of which were published in the magazine Paris Match at the time. These photographs shed a rare light to architect's persona. Enjoy.

These color gallery portraits of Corbusier portray him as Corbu the Artist more than as the architect. He seems to have painted a lot. But my favorite photo is not the color but the b&w of Corbu pouring himself Turkish coffee. I can relate.
Corbu, the marketing genius. The child like simplicity with which he's rendered his horrible buildings further softened with a child's sun, illuminating and warming all the earth's creatures. Yet Corbu dosen't look happy. Did he just hear that his dream of tearing down the heart of Paris was turned down? I can't relate to meglomaniacs.
Corb was so weird. He should be more normal.
Yo!
Megalomaniac? Do you really think that you can equate someone's psychology with their urbanism or housing designs. I spoke with persons who worked with Corbusier and megalomaniac was not a term used. I met a few architects, P.E. for example, that fit that description.
Yes, Meglomaniac. He did some wonderful studio buildings and sculptural homes in the country, if sterility is your thing, but his urbanism was grotesque. How many beautiful cities did he propose demolishing? Paris, Berlin, Buenos Aires, and how many more. If a contemporary architect proposed such plans, he'd be laughed off the stage and people would question his sanity. Why should it be any different for LeCorbusier?
