Well, no -- steel components are being fabricated in China. The construction quality issues which have been raised have been allegations of falsified on-site weld inspection reports.

This kind of thing is so worrisome... Chinese companies are being contracted like crazy to build tons of infrastructure across Africa, through govt-brokered deals. If this is how they cut corners building for their own countrymen, how tempting will it be to cut corners in some far-off land?
sorry... I thought SDR's comment about falsified wield inspection reports pertained to this bridge in China - now that I have read the full article I see they don't yet know what it was. Therefore we don't know specifically yet that corners were cut... however the reasons for my worry still stand.
SDR - you are referring to the Bay Bridge construction? Yikes, I hadn't heard about that.
