Artist Mike Kelley has passed away at his home in Los Angeles, having apparently taken his own life. The tragic news was confirmed to BLOUIN ARTINFO by Helene Winer, of New York's Metro Pictures gallery, a long-time associate of the artist. — artinfo.com

So sad.
We had a lot of friends in common and I often ran into him and talk with in eighties. Kelley was a really cool person and a remarkable representative of his great Cal-Arts genre who became a superstar early on. I posted this comment on his obituary. Similar sentiments are shared by many artists these days.
"It is really tough for real artists to put up with a world of art where the curators are marketing agents, galleries are home decoration stores, museums are run by event organizers, private museums built to support adjacent condominium construction and their directors are corporate people working for super rich collectors. Great art requires speaking the truth and great artists are not cheaters. Rest in peace Mike Kelley thanks for lasting thus far."
Heartbreaking.
Orhan, if you're suggesting that he felt too commodified, then I can only be surprised that we don't see more news like this all the time. I see *exactly* what you're saying, feel the same, and can only suggest that we stop with the FB, Twitter, and all the rest (NOT Archinect, however :) ) and take up _actual_ connection with one another in the wonderful world of 3D.
Peace, people.
