I personally think this is outragous especially when considering that New York City is suppose to be for democracy and freedom!
I will be writing a letter to Sheldon Silver about this. If anyone else is interested in doing the same here is the address of the assemblyman.
Assemblyman Sheldon Silver
62nd Assembly District
LOB 932
Albany, NY 12248
I'll send silver a copy of civilian occupation!
John, you should really think before sending a letter or any other crap to the assemblyman, because the whole thing shouldn't even be in his hands or of this so called "Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine"
It's disappointing Rogers resigned from the org APJP. It's the politics of one single project (Javits) vs. the politics of the an entire country (Isr), as enacted through the Security Fence. He should have never spoken in solidarity w/ the org if he was going to cave into the pressure and sever his ties. Looks like he has gone from taking a stand against the fence, to now, taking a position sitting right on it. I hope Lord reconsiders the fight the boycott is after, and that that may be more important than any single project he will or will not get. And if supporting the boycott blacklists him somehow in the future, then that is truly another fight to be had.
Is no one interested in the fact that the Security Wall has been deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice? That ultimately, the Wall is a war crime?? How long are people going to just roll over and accept what is going on over there? It is totally outrageous.
If you're going to write a letter to an elected public official, I would ask him (and you) to consider what kind of role this country (US) and specifically this administration plays in Middle East politics. Especially how we play Israel and the Palestinians against each other.
If the separation wall is a war crime, then it's one that the Bush Administration has blessed. The situation in Israel is much bigger than what the Israelis and Palestinians do to each other, or what Richard Rogers may or may not think.
its not about thinking! or the Bush administration, its a fundmental question of ethics! its about the ability to take a personal position or stand and then being forced economically to revise that position. Its usually called extortion. And I think its totally unconscionable!
yes it is extortion..
