That's right, breaking news at bdonline.
frm the news > "Previous plans for a grass covered mountain-like pavilion by fellow Dutch architects MVRDV, originally planned for this year, have now been postponed indefinitely because of the œtechnical and financial issues associated with the project, the gallery announced this week. Koolhaas also plans to work on a programme of films, interviews and debates to complement his new pavilion."

darn it! i keep losing my bdonline sign-in. why can't it be the same as all of my others?
As much as the Serp pavilion's have been great, it seems better served as a forum for upcoming younger architects. Siza, Koolhaas, Ito ... c'mon, it is just a pavilion, a good thing for an UpStart to cut their teeth on.
try bugmenot.com
Mason, you have a good point but for that you have the PS1
What makes the serpentine particular and quite incredible really, is that even though those architects are as big as it can get, they have not built ANYTHING before in the UK
yeah Ludwig, and Mason, i always found the serpentine task quite challenging for anyone, always a pavillion is a nice scale to try something new.... right Winy Maas??? (suckers), personally im excited to see what the OMA ppl can pull out of a pavillion.... dont think is also an interesting scale to see OMA's work??, i can only thing on big projects of them, besides their early houses.....
im happy w/the election (and happy they finally dropped the MVRDV nonsense)
ooopppssss "...i can only THINK on big..."
Lud + MAD - Still, it just feels like they are stocking their cabinets with trophys, rather than providing an outlet for new talent or even lesser lauded global talent on their own territory (Caruso St John, Adjaye, etc). And that seems the possibility of the pavilion / expo format...
anyway, OMA is about program and not site / context so i think OMA building in the UK is a red herring and a pavilion (programless) seems particularly out of sync. Lets see, and I will reserve judgement for now. Hopefull they will put the blue foam away for this one...
maybe ur right.... (i will push for PARALEL architecture next year dont worry) ;-)
by the way i wanna see images of it already, sorry im really curious what they can come up with...i hope nothing close to the terrible circus tent they did for the EUROPEAN UNION thing....
I think the fact that they attempt to sell the final product lends itself to selecting the uber celebrity architects
yeah lets better take it to the discussion forum SERPENToma's PAVILLION
