looks at all the other benefits besides 'security and counter-terrorism' that come with the 220 CCTV cams installed at NJ's Secaucus Junction, the first major transit station opened after 9/11. Transit authority officials claim the cameras are for more useful for improving customer service and observing maintenance issues than they are for policing space. But what if we began installing cameras everywhere on this basis, selling security as just a side-benefit to a more general rationale for surveillance? Are we just opening the door for more privacy invasion? Looks like a fine line of justification.
