re: the urban nomad shelter. there's always this interesting tug-of-war between using the homeless (aka urban nomads) to occupy a political statement about their condition or to simply provide them a place where they can live peacefully and with dignity. as beautiful as these 'cocoons' are, they represent the former.
how many of us want to go home to a sign/billboard that advertises our weakness? most people go home to disappear from the world for a while, not to be part of a display.
good point! the term "urban nomad" is such bullshit anyway, is that suppose to make it sound cool to be homeless? It's almost like having an Extreme Homeless Makeover Edition....
urban nomad, is relevent downtown la- hence every sciarc 1st yr. project addresses the same concept....( hardley new concept? ) however kudos to the team for implementing those ideas, and building it. i'd also like to see those suckers lit up at night on the street ! it will make the crack buyers/dealers easier to find.
