"NEW YORK (AP) _ Plans for a new basketball arena in Brooklyn moved a step closer to being realized Thursday when Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. George Pataki signed an agreement with the site developer for the city and the state to each pay $100 million for the project.
The $2.5 billion project includes the arena, which will be designed by celebrity architect Frank Gehry, 4,000 mixed-income housing units and commercial and retail space. "
