Pelli Clarke & Partners has completed work on their new Salesforce Tower project at Chicago's Wolf Point mixed-use development. The 852-foot tower is the final piece of the 15-year puzzle that transforms a four-acre portion of waterfront between the Riverwalk and Merchandise Mart and boasts a total of 1.2 million square feet of offices for the technology giant and leading national law firm Kirkland & Ellis.
"It has been a privilege to shape the transformation of Wolf Point and contribute to the design of Chicago’s iconic skyline for nearly 15 years," Partner Darin Cook said of their second commercial project for the Windy City. "We have long been inspired by Chicago’s rich architectural tradition and history of innovation. In creating Salesforce Tower, we designed a tower that reaches boldly skyward, is imbued with lightness, and takes a sculptural form."
Featuring an internal floor plate configuration that enables a maximal amount of flexibility, the structure’s floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall also allows natural light to penetrate into workspaces. At the ground level, a double-height entry lobby is finished in locally-referencing undulating millwork with a louvered wooden ceiling veneer and fitted to showcase five new digital art displays. The two uppermost ‘Ohana Floors’ will host space for conferences, free-of-charge nonprofit weekend tenants, and other events. A four-level, 2,000-space parking garage is included underground.
Another aspect of the project to pay attention to is its connection to surrounding transit lines and the city's commuter rail. The 2.3-acre sloped public park at the ground level engages with the public sphere and features retail and dining options. A press announcement stated there is outdoor working space for upwards of 2,000 people.
The new Salesforce Tower joins its neighboring 60-story Wolf Point East residences, also designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners. Two other high-rise office designs — the Mori JP Tower in Tokyo and Torre Mítikah in Mexico City — have been completed by the firm since January of 2023.
