Following last week’s look at an opportunity for the next Howard E. LeFevre ‘29 Emerging Practitioner Fellowship, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Head of PR (International & US) at MAD Architects.
The role, based in Los Angeles with remote possible, calls for an individual to lead press, media, and editorial campaigns in order to increase MAD’s online presence and "represent the firm’s branding and voice." Among the requirements for the role are a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, communications, or a related field, as well as a "proven track record for delivering online growth and engagement" for media outlets and social media.
Why the role interests us
The open role at MAD offers us a chance to review some of the recent international projects outside of the firm’s native China that the next Head of PR will likely promote and interact with. Earlier this year, MAD unveiled plans for their first South American project, which will become Quito’s tallest tower when completed. In April, the firm unveiled its MOMENTUM installation for this year’s Milan Design Week, while in March, we covered progress at the firm’s billion-dollar Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles as well as their dance center in Rotterdam.
Last year, meanwhile, the firm unveiled a range of international projects set for construction, including an innovation gateway in Milan, a residential rental project in Denver, and a tree-filled “office of the future” in Hollywood.
To learn more about the firm’s approach across international contexts, Archinect spoke with MAD founder Ma Yansong in October 2022, in which Yansong reflected on the importance of nature in the firm’s work.
“It is also important not to see nature in just a literal sense,” Yansong told us. “I am talking about nature on a spiritual level. It is not about simply incorporating natural elements into a project. Sometimes it may not be necessary to have a natural element at all.”
