A day after Nashville’s NFL franchise unveiled its plans for a new 60,000-seat stadium, Populous and HASTINGS have officially announced the completion of what is now the largest purpose-built soccer stadium in North America for Tennessee’s "other" football team, Nashville SC.
Located inside the Nashville Fairgrounds complex, the 30,000-seat GEODIS Park is meant to evoke the "look and feel" of the Music City’s industrial past as it enhances the local civic space with a multipurpose facility that can accommodate a host of different public events, concerts, and other community activities.
"GEODIS Park is a world-class stadium that speaks specifically to human scale," Bruce Miller, Populous’ Senior Principal and Managing Director for the Americas, said in a statement. "The Nashville identity is seamlessly and authentically woven into the design and the fabric of this stadium through our collaboration with HASTINGS, which pairs innovation and high design to energize and serve Nashville SC, its fans and the city."
Clad in brick masonry to reflect the vernacular character of its site in the city’s Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood, the Park’s presence is further defined by a distinct cross-bracing supported steel canopy structure that offers a delineation in identity from the concourse level and seating bowl below.
Per the architects: "Colorful banners featuring the faces of players and fans adorn the exterior columns; murals and posters around the exterior and throughout the club spaces reflect the history of the Nashville SC; and, in true Music City form, a stage built into the seating bowl houses a Les Paul guitar for the pregame 'riff' tradition."
Display boards from industry-leading Daktronics cap off the Park’s offerings, with special considerations for the 27,000-capacity concert venue’s back-of-house functions further programmed for maximum adaptability.
"Designing spaces for our community is always rewarding, but a project of this scale, in a storied neighborhood such as this, and hosting the quantity and voracity of this fan base, is an unprecedented privilege for me," HASTINGS Principal-in-Charge, David M. Powell, said speaking of the hometown firm's involvement. "Nashville SC recognized from the beginning that this stadium had to be uniquely Nashville. We were honored to represent our city in executing their vision."
