A prominent English artist is getting some sweet new digs thanks to a newly-designed studio by Hollaway.
Mr Doodle has been lighting up the art market lately after coming out of relative obscurity in 2019. The 26-year-old’s public image is defined by his signature “spaghetti graffiti” outfits and an elaborate original myth wherein the artist has been working toward building a spaceship that will eventually transport him back to his native Doodeland after a long period of forced exile.
His new mission control will feature an expansion of the neo-Georgian home in which the artist currently resides. Encapsulating a “physical veil of doodles” laser-cut into the metal siding of the studio, the new space has a revealing corner entrance that resembles the lifting of a stage curtain, lounge, and storage area. Sawtoothed roof windows allow for natural light to be dissipated throughout the studio in a way that contours to Mr Doodle’s artistic process.
The Tenterden, Kent studio has been envisioned as a sculptural embodiment of his work, situated amongst gardens that are designed by his wife, Mrs Doodle.
“It has been amazing to see the project go from the first sketch that Mrs Doodle made, all the way to what it is today,” the artist said in a press statement. “Hollaway Studio has done such a brilliant job of designing everything, the CGIs look superb, I just can't wait for it to happen now.”
Mrs Doodle’s garden plays on the zen-like flow her husband’s doodling feeds off of. The design includes a converging of two rivers, a metaphor for their relationship, in addition to a maze, which can only be viewed from the roof of the studio where the invisible hand of the artist is finally seen in its full glory.
“Gardening is a form of art. And this garden is a unique collaboration between me and Sam,” Mrs Doodle said. “I wanted to give this amazing building the surroundings that will make it shine even more. The garden is a three dimensional painting and the studio is its focal point. And just like any painting, it has its own unique world within, where you are diving and exploring as you come in. But more importantly — it’s the reflection of the two of us together. Synergy, completeness, creativeness and love.”
The studio is expected to be complete by the end of next year.
