Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne of Morphosis appeared before the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) again Tuesday to present an updated proposal for the restoration of an 1868 townhouse in Brooklyn, and the construction of a new 2,000-square-foot carriage house at its rear.
Mayne, who appeared with his collaborator, Ted Kane (who is overseeing the restoration), won the unanimous approval — and delight — of the LPC for his revised design.

The new version is better, for sure.
I wonder if the "darker steel" is coated or simply a clever substitution of "weathering steel" before it has weathered.
The changes look good. A rare instance of the deBlasio-era LPC doing something useful and beneficial.
This is like Old Skool Morphosis. Good Stuff.
Exactly how does that stair meet code?
As rendered it doesn't but that's an existing stair outside of the project scope. In reality, it has vertical pickets under the handrail.
I'd personally opt for wrapping the brick around those protruding elements, to make it seem like they're made of bricks through and through...but maybe that's just me
