After a decrease in the number of construction cranes in use across major cities in the U.S. and Canada, Rider Levett Bucknall’s Crane Index has found an increase in cranes to start 2021. — Construction Dive
Construction Drive reports that Toronto still leads the North American crane count with 208 (compared to 124 in 2020), while Washington D.C. boasted 45, followed by Seattle and Los Angeles with 43 cranes each. New York City was indexed with 10 cranes in Q1 2021.

There's no way this can be correct, how are they counting 10 cranes in NYC? I'm pretty sure I can see 10 just from my office window.
Nice view!
I was going to say maybe it's only new cranes added, but if you click-thru to the RLB source data the NYC summary has an asterisk with a geographic boundary:
New York City’s crane count holds steady, with the newly expanded survey parameters*, owing to several projects being completed. The Hudson Yards development is ongoing, with the nine-block site home to ten cranes. Construction of new office space seems to be on hold, with businesses continuing to evaluate remote-working strategies for their employees. New York State has released plans for a major regeneration of the Midtown west area over the coming years.
*As of Q1 2021, New York City’s crane survey parameters have been updated from ‘59th Street down to 12th Street, and between 2nd and 8th Avenue’ to ‘59th Street down to 12th Street, and between 2nd and 12th Avenue’
Wow, I did not see the parameters note. Do they seriously think that anyone considers "NYC" to be that sole area of roughly 300 blocks?
