Hugh Newell Jacobsen, an award-winning Washington architect whose deceptively simple designs for homes and prominent public buildings honored the values of traditional styles while cleverly infusing modernist sensibilities, died March 4 at an assisted-living center in Front Royal, Va. He was 91.

Sad to hear the news. Modern without being an enfant terrible about it.
under appreciated, superb work, and nicely clean of overwhelming theoretical purpose.
HNJ: JNH (just nice houses)
This is the first time I heard of this architect unfortunately. Nice body of work, I like the consistent play with the archetypical house silhouette in almost every project.
He was very approachable more so considering his starchitect stature; one of my finest employers ever. Rest in peace dear Hugh.
