The renovation of the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris took place between July 2016 and October 2019 with a primary goal of improving the reception area and staff working spaces. The museum remained open to the public during the renovation, forcing the team to coordinate the project without disturbing visitors.
The team, led by h2o architectes removed past additions that were clogging up the main space of the museum's entrance hall an other public areas. This gave the institution a more fluid circulatory experience and provided a design with more flexibility.
Additional reception areas, a restaurant, and other repositioned facilities were introduced as well, and areas reserved for staff were integrated into the program of the museum. The result is a more expansive environment that allows ample natural light to wash through the space for visitors and staff throughout the day.
