Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron and Canadian architects Quadrangle have been selected by Kroonenberg Groep and ProWinko to design a new mixed-use tower in Toronto.
In the north-south orientation, the tower has a 3:1 ratio, creating a thin volume. A linear core at the western facade has been proposed by the architects to maximize usable floor area and to capitalize on eastern views and western privacy from adjacent future developments.
At 87 stories, the first 16 floors will replace the existing retail, office, and technical programs. Private amenities separate the lower levels from the upper condominiums which are fit with floor-to-ceiling operable windows for natural ventilation. External shutters also allow each user to regulate the daylight within the space.
A large restaurant, sky lounge, and rentable space occupy the top three levels of the tower and offer panoramic views of the city of Toronto. At street level, building-goers enter a triple-height lobby that leads up to the residential floors. These floors offer residences that range from one bedroom to multi-level penthouses, totaling 332 condo units that spread across 64 floors.
