A battle over the right to enjoy uninterrupted views of the Acropolis has resulted in a five-star hotel being ordered to demolish its top two floors, in a landmark ruling hailed by residents of Athens. [...]
Citizens enraged about the ten-storey establishment blocking their own views of the citadel took the case to the highest court in the land.
— The Guardian
Activists in the Greek capital have been rallying against a number of high-rise proposals that could substantially block the view of the city's most priced historic landmark.
The court's decision in the most recent luxury hotel case wasn't easy, however, as The Guardian points out: "In 2012, in the midst of Greece’s economic crisis, a new construction code was passed permitting bigger and taller buildings if they met 'green' standards. Investors seized the opportunity, initiating a building spree in a capital that would subsequently attract record tourist arrivals."

What a lovely blank wall some fucking idiot "designed".
Not sure what the fuss is about. Vistors on those upper floors would have had an excellent view.
The fuss is because the vista of the Acropolis is one of the most valued things in Athens. It should not be obstructed to provide a privileged few a special vantage point.
Athens is not a place for tall buildings.
My sarcasm backfired. Visitors on the upper floors would enjoy the view at the expense of many others.
I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to wake up every day to that view.
That sarcasm, she's a tricky mistress.
my proposal is a hotel on hydraulic lifts that slides up and down according to the whim of the codes
Just raise the acropolis a few metres higher.
Just build the hotel hovering over the Acropolis, like Tschumi's museum, everybody would keep their nice view and then some...
