In an effort to lessen the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic and to take advantage of fewer vehicles on the road during a 30-day stay-at-home order, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has ordered the state DOT to accelerate $2.1 billion of transportation projects. — Construction Dive
In an April 1 briefing, according to Construction Dive, the Florida Governor said the state is moving up construction on the $865M Howard Frankland Bridge project between Tampa and St. Petersburg by four weeks; a road widening project in Palm Beach County by three months; the $802 million I-395/SR 836/I-95 design-build project in Miami by four weeks; and a project near International Drive and Universal Boulevard in Orlando by four to six weeks.
Due to the lighter traffic, crews will be able to work longer shifts and close off more lanes, Construction Dive reports.
This would be great if it included more non-highway infrastructure.
we should be building more light rail infrastructure

Good move. Seen many closed roads for infrastructure work in my state during the stay-at-home requirement. It's smart on the municipality's part to do work that could cause congestion and inconvenience to people commuting.

Public transit initiatives will take a huge hit after this virus has taken its toll on society. Especially in the US.
yeah... who the hell wants to be in a bus or a train with strangers coughing on you...
