This Olson Kundig-designed Hollywood Hills West retreat, called "Collywood," sits just over the Sunset Strip and overlooks Los Angeles, offering panoramic views stretching from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. A seamless connection between the interior and exterior of the home was an essential part of the design criteria provided by the client.
The main level of the residence contains the kitchen, dining and living areas, and a series of retractable window walls that give occupants unobstructed access to the outdoor terrace spaces that encircle the home. "Because the home is located in California, there’s a strong indoor/outdoor connection. Terraces become outdoor living areas and indoor rooms open up completely, almost erasing the line between inside and outside," said Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA in a statement.
The main terrace adjacent the dining and living areas lead to a swimming pool that overlooks the L.A. city skyline. As one moves to the upper levels, the master bedroom can be found along with a den, home gym, and a number of roof decks.
Moreover, this 15,600-square-foot retreat also contains a lower level that celebrates the client's personal interests and hobbies including an auto gallery, game room, and media room.
Kundig also said: "This home navigates many different scales: the larger landscape scale of Los Angeles, the scale of entertainment and large group gatherings, and the intimate scale of spaces for daily living. I’m most excited about how the design intertwines these scales and allows the client to expand or contract the home depending on changing needs."

The environment is going to hell and you don't even add solar. These mega homes consume a lot of energy. So when the neighbors have rolling blackouts look up to that mega structure next door in the hills. The house isn't in West Hollywood it is in Los Angeles. The crime is extremely high up in the hills and it takes LAPD forever to get up there as well as emergency vehicles. But hey, you have a big place with a view that spells self centered individual all over it.
oh come ON, man! it has a white roof, and i see some little solar panels on there but they're hard to see 'cause the house is so damn BIG! and look how happy that guy is, leaning on his illegal glass guard rail!
Very dramatic. But it's not in West Hollywood.
Thanks. Was a typo. Location has since been updated
I like the folk quality of the Pacific Northwest in comparison to the Case Study Houses. Los Angeles is world class.
