[...] the second supertall to result from the Midtown East rezoning is moving forward, with JPMorgan Chase filing a text amendment with City Planning for a 1,400-foot tower on the site of 270 Park Avenue. Designed by Foster + Partners Architects, the plans also come with the first renderings of the 2.4 million square foot supertall, and massing diagrams that offer a look at what’s in store for New York City’s most central business district. — New York YIMBY
After announcing Foster + Partners as design architect for its new 270 Park Avenue HQ tower a few days ago, JPMorgan Chase has now filed a zoning text amendment with NYC's City Planning department.
The document shows two options for a massive supertall tower to replace the current building from 1961; one option rising an impressive 1,566 feet and 8 inches above ground, and the other version standing 'merely' 1,400 feet to its rooftop.
"Either option would make a very substantial impact on the Midtown East skyline," reports YIMBY.

Why are they using the same historical style in the renderings when the new building will be different? Par for the course in this dishonest con process of bankers moving money around. Will end up completely different.
What’s really stupid is that the supposed reason for change, “cramped space” will displace their workers for 5 years when they could have just expanded on the short Madison Ave side (for those familiar with the project). Meanwhile there will probably be a crash by then.
a truly stupid project from every angle — architecture, sustainability, culture, economics. Yet these bankers will end up hat in hands asking for bailouts in a few years.
This is a vanity project. Nobody needs a Ferrari, but we all want one. This is their Ferrari and frankly they can afford it, so why not . Not crazy about its position on the skyline, but Hudson Yards has ruined the skyline, so it doesn’t matter
If they were purchasing and demolishing just about any other glass box on Park Ave., we wouldn't be having this conversation. Union Carbide, Lever House, and Seagram's are the best of the group. In my opinion, Chase should really be demolishing their old Bear Stearns tower that SOM did in the late 1990's. It's a very weak design.
I'm really scared about what Foster is cooking up here. His other NYC projects are really weak. It's like they are channeling bad mid-century design. Their new tower at Hudson Yards is especially bad.
At least Foster will design a great building. Could be worse. And no this isn’t the building I would ever have torn down. I’d start with Pan Am and go from there. And stay away from the Empire State Building! These buildings are encroaching on it
