It's the start of another (shorter) week in Los Angeles. The MAK Center will host a book launch and discussion panel about the lasting influence of Frederick Kiesler, while the Hammer Museum will debut the first U.S. survey of notable artist Marisa Merz, the only woman accepted in Turin's Arte Povera movement. Over in Newport Beach, the Orange County Museum of Art is currently exhibiting works by Pacific Rim-region artists in the 2017 California-Pacific Triennial.

Marisa Merz: The Sky Is a Great Space | Opening on June 4

This survey brings together five decades of work by Marisa Merz, notable Italian painter, sculptor and installation artist, who was also the 2013 recipient of the Venice Biennale Golden Lion for lifetime achievement. This exhibition marks Merz's first retrospective in the United States, and it will also be accompanied by her first monograph to be published in English.

The Orange County Museum of Art's second California-Pacific Triennial explores various issues related to “architecture and the temporal precariousness of the built environment”. The survey showcases a range of site-specific works and never-before-seen works by artists and designers based around the Pacific Rim, including Super Critical Mass, Bryony Roberts, Carmen Argote, anothermountainman, Ken Ehrlich, Estudio Teddy Cruz + Forman, Lead Pencil Studio, and more.
