Camilo Vergara Book Talk: “Detroit Is No Dry Bones” | December 6, recommended by Justine Testado
Having spent the last 25 years documenting the city of Detroit, ethnographer and photographer Camilo José Vergara will talk about his latest book, “Detroit Is No Dry Bones”, at The Skyscraper Museum. Vergara's photographs in this book focus on Detroit's urban revival, from its repurposed buildings to its local culture and largely African-American community.

Submissions are currently being accepted again to the annual Socrates Sculpture Park Folly competition, hosted jointly by the park and the Architectural League of New York. If you're interested in submitting your absolutely fantastic folly project this year (or still on the edge about it), then this information session is for you. Representatives of Socrates Sculpture Park, the League, and last year's winning designers, Hou de Sousa, will give you the lowdown.
Tower, Slab, Superblock: Social Housing Legacies and Futures | December 10, recommended by Amelia Taylor-Hochberg
As available and affordable housing stock is stressed the world over, architects and planners need to be considering how cities can be made more livable for all. This conference will consider the associated issues of social housing through questions of both design and policy, including case studies from around the world.
