CONVENIENT | New York's Love Affair With Plastics | September 15, recommended by Justine Testado

Hearing about the negative impact that plastic has on both the built and natural environment is nothing new. And yet, people still use — and dispose — so much of the stuff every day. As the final installment of the MCNY's “Fast, Cool, and Convenient” series, journalist Susan Freinkel will talk about how the rise of plastic helped shape a culture of convenience and our seemingly unbreakable dependency on disposables.
Take Me (I’m Yours) | Opening on September 16, recommended by Amelia Taylor-Hochberg
Felix Gonzalez-Torres, "Untitled" (USA Today), 1990.
This exhibition's name is true to its unconventional format: visitors are encouraged to touch, or even take, elements of the works on display. Originally staged in London's Serpentine Galleries in 1990, this will be the first time the exhibit is shown in the U.S., with pieces by over 40 artists, including Andrea Fraser, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Carsten Höller, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Amalia Ulman.

Ever dreamed of touring the Woolworth Building? Designed by architect Cass Gilbert and completed in 1913, this neo-gothic landmark at 233 Broadway is typically off-limits to visitors, but the good folks of Untapped Cities make it happen and present an exclusive insiders tour led by — are you sitting down? — Gilbert’s great granddaughter, Helen Post Curry.
