Popularized by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, “Manhattanhenge” — sometimes called the Manhattan Solstice — happens twice every summer when the setting sun is perfectly aligned with the east-west streets of Manhattan's street grid. Snap some sweet Instagram-worthy photos of the celestial event over at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, which will keep its gates open after-hours. Don't miss out, or you'll have to wait until next year!
The Architecture Lobby Bastille Day Party + Fundraiser | July 14, recommended by Amelia Taylor-Hochberg
As a worker-founded organization devoted to advancing the value of architecture–both in the general public and within the discipline–The Architecture Lobby runs on the steam of its members and supporters. To help keep things running financially, they're throwing a party and hosting an art auction on (when else) Bastille Day.

In the mood for something wonky and provocative this week? Good. The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) presents the exhibition Studio Job MAD HOUSE showcasing the work of Belgian Job Smeets and Dutch Nynke Tynagel. Proudly pushing the reputation of enfants terribles of the art and design world, the duo's been active in a wide spectrum of media and forms, always marrying traditional arts practices with contemporary themes—spiced with a not-so-small dash of tongue-in-cheek.
But a Storm Is Blowing from Paradise: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa | Open now until October 5, recommended by Justine Testado

Get a glimpse of the contemporary art practices emerging from the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the region's diaspora. Visit the Guggenheim to see this multimedia exhibition now (or in the fall) before it travels to Istanbul's Pera Museum next year.
