Film screening: “The World of Buckminster Fuller” | June 23, recommended by Nicholas Korody
One of the most interesting and influential designers of the 20th century, Buckminster Fuller is well-known for his role in popularizing the geodesic dome as an architectural structure. But he did much more than that, from designing pre-fab, affordable housing prototypes to the Dymaxion car, a three-wheeled car designed to one day fly. Head over to the Museum of Arts and Design to check out a screening of "the World of Buckminster Fuller."
CITY SQUARES conversation and book signing with Catie Marron | June 23, recommended by Justine Testado
Stop by the Rizzoli Bookstore for a book signing featuring City Squares author and editor Catie Marron, who will have a conversation with New York Times architecture critic Michael Kimmelman and architecture educator and critic Reed Kroloff. Hang out longer for the reception.
Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History | Open now until August 7, recommended by Amelia Taylor-Hochberg
The designer known for combining high- and low-brow, disrupting runway shows with models wearing Adidas sneakers and partnering with giant mass-market retailers like Target, is getting a thematic retrospective at the Jewish Museum. Enjoy an afternoon with Isaac Mizrahi's designs, and remember his wise words: "Style makes you feel great because it takes your mind off the fact that you're going to die."
